SMATE Academic-Year Scholarship Applications due April 29, 2024

For the 2024-25 Academic year, SMATE will award up to three Double Eagle scholarships for $2,000 each and one Alan Thon scholarship for $1,500.

Double Eagle II Scholarship

For Future Stem Teachers

The Science, Mathematics, and Technology Education (SMATE) Program at Western Washington University announces the Double Eagle II Scholarship for undergraduate or graduate students at WWU who are planning to become a STEM teacher in grades K-12. Applicants must major in one of the STEM fields and plan to teach in the public school system. They must also be a U.S citizen. Applicants will be judged based on their GPA in their major courses, recommendations from faculty, and their personal commitment to teaching. Applications are encouraged from current WWU students and community college students planning to attend WWU in 2024-25. Western Washington University is committed to improving the quality and increasing the diversity of STEM teachers in the public schools. Award amounts vary and are pending funding approval.

Alan Thon Family Scholarship

For Future STEM Teachers

The Science, Mathematics, and Technology Education (SMATE) Program at Western Washington University announces the Allan Thon Family Scholarship of $1,500 for undergraduate or graduate students at WWU who are planning to become teachers of science in grades K-12. Applicants must be U.S citizens. Applicants will be judged based on their GPA in their major courses, recommendations from faculty, and their personal commitment to teaching. Western Washington University is committed to improving the quality and increasing the diversity of science teachers in the public schools. Awards dependent on funding.

For the 2024-25 academic year, one Allan Thon Family scholarship will be awarded for $1,500.
