Community Membership

If you are a parent, teacher, or administrator, a SMATE Membership might be perfect for you! Do you need increased access to materials and curriculum to enhance your science teaching? Are you looking for more resources to engage learners in science content?

SMATE grant participants and cooperating k-12 teachers that support WWU's Woodring students (by hosting a science education practicum or having a student teacher), are eligible for a free membership!

Memberships are valid for one academic year (August-July) .

Please note: Computers and calculators are not available for checkout by community members.

About Us

SMATE is home to the Science Education program at Western.

We serve as a resource for teaching science and provide equipment and supplies to enhance science education.

For over 20 years, we have been training future teachers in effective science teaching methods.

Our Facility

The Learning Resource Center (LRC) is open for everyone to explore at no cost during our open hours.

Affordable memberships are available, allowing you to check out books, supplies, and equipment for a two-week period.

Membership Options

  • Family Membership: $35 per year
  • School Membership: $100 per year
  • Grant Participants and their entire school (teachers): Free
  • Cooperating teachers: Free
  • Scholarships available
